I am interested in raising a few goats on our rural property in Washington County, in the foothills of the Coast Range. I would like to use goats for brush control and meat, and would also like to train a couple of goats for packing and harness work. I might someday want a nanny for milk for cheese-making, on a very small scale. I am interested specifically in the purebred Spanish goat for its hardiness and size, and to help preserve the breed. I am glad to find a Spanish Goat Breeder in Oregon! I certainly have questions to ask. In particular, I find little information on the general temperament of Spanish Goats, and I need to know more. Tank you! -- Dorothy greets

admin: Hi Dorothy. I think you have chosen the right breed. Spanish goats have proven to my wife and I to be non-aggressive. We do not dis-bud our goats so when they are young, up to about eight months you may have to help them get their heads unstuck from the fence. They will come up and take treats from your hand and let you pet them after they get to know you. We have never trained them to pack or even be lead on a leash. Like all goats they are herd animals and need the company of other goats.
Hope this helps- Harless

I recently had the opportunity to cook and eat some of Cozine Spring’s goat meat. It was fabulous! I had never eaten goat meat before and did not know what to expect. It destroyed all my preconceptions of what goat would taste like. The flavor was mild and as good as any beef I have eaten. The true test was when my wife ate it and was amazed at how good it tasted. If you haven’t eaten goat before, this is the one to try!

I contacted Mr. Marcom at Cozine Springs Ranch about 3 weeks ago. We were looking for a Spanish Billy for our Boer Nannies. They were GREAT! They were patient with us (our time line for arrival did not go as planned). We are very pleased with our new addition and plan on keeping in touch with the Marcom's. They are wonderful people and have an excellent herd of goats. Phil
